The Vatican Library Medals Collection Catalogue includes the reference notes relative to the coins and medals which are preserved within the Library.

The electronic cataloguing of the medal collections of the Vatican Library was begun in 2001. The project, still in process, is foreseen to provide digital scans of the images, hypertext links with bibliographic reference and on-line WEB Library catalogue information.

The catalogue is updated daily.

The bibliographic descriptions of the medals collection of three dimensional materials are in MARC 21 format. Subject headings are chosen according to the Vatican Library “Subjects” list, which increases according to the graphic typology of the works being referenced.

The cataloguing of the Parthia kingdoms and the Roman Empire collections of coins is now in progress, in collaboration with Patrizia Calabria, chair of Numismatics - Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, University of Rome "La Sapienza" - who is responsible for the scientific description - while Francesco Di Iorio is the editor of the bibliographic records.

The images are provide in three different levels of resolution (small, medium and large), with the possibility to enlarge details up to 5 times.

The images are protected by copyright of the Vatican Library and any abuse will be prosecuted according to legal norms.
