The Passion of Christ

The 12 engravings, engraved by the Dutch engraver, Hendrick Goltzius, between 1596 and 1598, are included in the celebrated series of the Passion of Christ.

They were donated to the Holy Father, John Paul II, by the Mayor or Paris during a private audience in 2003.

These engravings are an example of the acquisitions that the Gabinetto delle Stampe (Prints Collections) of the Vatican Library are yearly enhanced by through donations, offerings and acquisitions of this kind.

The collection possesses two other samples of the series: the first from the Fondo Antico (Stampe.V.87,38-43), the second from the Fondo Cicognara (Cicognara.V.2015,36-74).
