Restoration Laboratory
The Restoration Lab studies and applies
the techniques most effective for the safeguarding,
conservation and restoration of the materials of the
Library and maintains the environment in which they are
preserved. According to the directives of the Commission
to which it has be entrusted, the laboratory restores
manuscripts, archival materials, prints, printed books
and bindings which are most precious to the Library.
Photographic Laboratory
The
Photographic Lab provides all of the photographic
reproduction services for manuscripts, publications,
relics and other objects of the Library, according to
the most appropriate technique for the type of request,
for both internal uses for the Library and for the needs
of the scholars. It processes all photographic requests
approved by the Directors of the Departments; arranges
and updates the photographic archives.
Electronic Data Processing (E.D.P.)
The E.D.P. ensures the
proper functioning, maintenance and development of the
technical equipment for all the library science
and administrative procedures of the Library.
Technical
information
Publishing
The Publishing Office
is responsible for the realization of the publications
which come out of the Vatican Library, as determined by
the appropriate Commission. Specifically, this involves
following the practical work of the typographic
composition, with the possibility of using the
computer publishing system internal to the Library.
The Publishing Office also
follows the corrections of the proofs, and the updating
of the catalogue of publications.

The Vatican Library provides the service of the School
of Library Science, founded by Pius XI in November,
1934. An annual course is organized for post
graduate students. Information on the courses can be

On
an
exceptional bases, the
Library concedes to a limited number of loans of
materials from its collections for exhibitions of a
scientific nature, or for important cultural or
religious events. Exhibition services carries out the
decisions of the Exhibitions Commission, and maintains
correspondence and contact with requesting entities.
